The Firebeam BLUE operates by sending an infrared light signal from the detector head to a reflector mounted on the opposite wall. When smoke crosses the beam and obscures the returning signal, a fire event is registered.

Inheriting the market-leading optical technology of the Firebeam Xtra, the BLUE model eliminates the need for individual hard-wired controllers for each beam head. Instead, engineers use a dedicated smartphone or tablet application (available for iOS and Android) via a direct Bluetooth connection—requiring no mobile phone signal or internet connection on-site—to commission, test, align, and maintain the system from ground level. Its continuous auto-alignment feature ensures the head automatically adjusts to building movement and settles back to the centre of the reflector, drastically reducing false alarms and maintenance overhead.
